Becky Sharaya has been a board-certified music therapist since December 2014. She received her undergraduate degree in music therapy from the University of Dayton, and completed her music therapy internship with a hospice company. Then she worked for about 2.5 years for a nonprofit serving individuals with disabilities. Since she was in middle school, Becky has played percussion in all settings from timpani in orchestra to snare drum in the marching band to a marimba quartet and everything in between. Becky sings and plays percussion for her church choir and leads a small group for the Frassati Society of Young Adult Catholics.
Music therapy intervention has numerous benefits. Music therapists work to accomplish goals such as decreasing pain, anxiety and nausea. They also offer comfort, peace and a supportive presence.
Music therapy is one of the offerings that makes Paradigm Living Concepts unique in our field. There are certain disciplines Medicare requires hospice agencies to provide. Music therapy is not required, however, at Paradigm we see the benefits to our patients and families, and our proud to provide this meaningful service.
