For hospice nurse Lisa Wieghard, LPN, caring for others has been a calling rooted in a lifetime of love and connection with seniors. Growing up, Lisa was close to her great-grandmother, who helped raise her and instilled in her an appreciation for the wisdom and warmth of older generations. As a child, Lisa would spend hours at the local nursing home, sitting with residents, listening to their stories and offering companionship.

That early love for geriatric care shaped Lisa’s career, eventually finding her home in hospice and palliative care. Watching hospice nurses enter her facility with joy on their faces, Lisa knew she wanted to be part of something bigger — a team dedicated to making life’s final chapter one filled with dignity, comfort, and love.

Hospice Nurse Lisa Wieghard: Caregiver and Friend

Lisa

Lisa sees every patient and family as unique, tailoring her care to what makes them feel seen, valued and comforted. Whether it’s bringing flowers, cards or remembering a patient’s favorite drink, she goes the extra mile to ensure they each feel special. For one family in particular, Lisa has become more than just their nurse; she has become like an extended family member. They recently gave her a heartfelt card of appreciation, thanking her for being there in their most vulnerable moments. They call her their Florence Nightingale, a testament to the impact she’s had on their lives.

A Culture That Changes Lives (Including Her Own)

Lisa believes that the care we provide is unlike any other hospice provider. The support, camaraderie and teamwork she has found while working here haven’t just shaped her professionally, they’ve transformed her personally as well. “A year ago, I was a completely different person,” Lisa shares. “But the relationships I’ve built with my co-workers and the families I serve have changed my life. My team has built me up in ways I never expected.”

Here she sees a culture that raises the bar — not just for patient care, but for each other. No matter what the challenge is, she knows she can turn to her colleagues, and they will lift her up just as she strives to uplift those around her.

Spreading Light, One Thoughtful Gesture at a Time

Lisa’s warmth extends beyond patient care.  She brings the same compassion and kindness to her coworkers every day. Her colleague, Catherine Mangrum, describes her impact: “Lisa is so full of light and positivity, and it spreads like wildfire. She not only goes above and beyond for her patients but also for her coworkers.”

Lisa says she is inspired by her late husband, Gary, who sent her flowers every week to make her feel special. She now pays that kindness forward by regularly sending flowers and uplifting cards to her colleagues, letting them know how much they are appreciated. For Lisa, it’s these little moments of kindness that create a workplace where people feel valued and supported.

A Message to Families Considering Hospice Care

Lisa’s passion for her work is clear, and if she could tell families one thing about choosing Paradigm Health for hospice care, it would be this:

“It will be the best decision you make. Everyone here cares so deeply — not just for their work, but for the families they serve and for each other. Whether it’s a nurse, a music therapist, a social worker, or a chaplain, we are all here to enrich lives in every way possible. You are not alone. We are here to walk this journey with you.”

Hospice nurse Lisa Wieghard embodies everything that makes our culture special: compassion, dedication and a heart that never stops giving. We are so honored to have her on our team, and the lives she touches every day are forever changed because of her care.
