Hospice is a benefit that the VA offers to veterans who are qualified and in the final phase of their lives, typically six months or less. This multi-disciplinary team approach helps veterans live fully until they die. The VA also works very closely with community and home hospice agencies to provide care in the home. Through the We Honor Veterans program, Paradigm Health’s holistic and team approach to hospice care for Indiana veterans can assist to streamline the referral and admission process, educate our staff and communities about end-of-life needs for veterans, and coordinate care with the VA and other organizations. We also provide veteran-to-veteran volunteer programs and connect veterans and their families with community resources.

As a part of the We Honor Veterans program, Paradigm Health is always in search of veteran volunteers. Many of our Indiana veteran patients would be especially comforted by knowing the shared veteran experience is a part of their volunteer’s life and history.

Paradigm Health hospice volunteer Bill Krueper retired from the Navy in early 2020 after 20 years of service. He’s spent his entire career collaborating and working alongside many throughout those two decades dedicated to serving his country and others. Now, he volunteers his time to offer companionship and connection to hospice patients.

“I had the honor of working with some of the most dedicated men and women our country has to offer. We were from all types of backgrounds, and always figured out a way to accomplish the mission together. With volunteering, it’s taking the time to communicate, share stories, and have a good time while taking the focus off the end-of-life experience. I’m positive the time spent as a volunteer helps me as much as it does them. They enjoy sharing their stories or those of family members and I try to add in some stories about my own life to show how similar we all really are.”
